Living Hope’s Yadah Yadah Puppet Ministry

The name of Living Hope Lutheran Church's puppet team came from the Hebrew verb Yadah which means to worship with extended hand, perfect for a puppet ministry. Our ministry verse is from Psalm 63:4: I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands.
Prior to the formation of the team, several members of Living Hope Lutheran Church attended a One-Way Street training festival in February 2008. We were able to take classes, watch other churches perform and purchase puppets, Christian pre-recorded skits and music with the grant funds. This festival was a great way to connect with other churches and learn from how they did things in their puppet ministry. It was an awesome jumpstart to our new ministry.
Beginning in May 2008, Yadah Yadah Puppet Team has met on Monday evenings. There are currently 12 members on the team, 8 youth and 4 adults. Each member was responsible for naming a puppet and creating a story about that puppet. The following week they all shared their puppet friend’s names and stories. What was wonderful about this was they all created names and stories that had to do with their own Christian faith. Our puppet friend names are Eve, Christie Christian, Papa “Abe” Abraham, Noah, Grace, Freddie Faith - to name a few. We all trained together watching videos and even worked on puppet aerobics. What was great about the puppet aerobics was it was a Christian training CD that used verses including “I can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth me” from Philippians 4:13.
By the end of rehearsal all team members had memorized that Bible verse without even trying. We rehearsed in preparation for our church’s Youth Showcase. The youth showcase was the debut of our puppet ministry along with a children’s choir singing and the youth praise team band performing.
